I was first introduced to karate back in late 1989 whilst on a trip to the UK with my Mum to visit family for Christmas. We stayed with my uncle, who was a Kyokushin practitioner. it was through him my interest in the art of karate was born.
After Christmas I returned to western Australia, 6 months later we moved to Brisbane, Queensland. My mum finally got fed up with me asking and found me a karate club in early 1990.
The club was affiliated to the WSKF (World Shotokan Karate Federation).
My first Sensei was Jean Pierre Marcello a 3rd Dan instructor for the WSKF. I trained there for 3 years achieving my 5th Kyu. Unfortunately the club had to close due to unforeseen circumstances.
In 1993 My family and I moved to the Bexhill in the UK. while looking for a new club I came across the SSKD run by Sensei Ian Hollidge, I decided to join and trained at the club for about a year and a half , in that time I gained my 4th Kyu. Shortly after I left the club, Being a teenager at the time I wanted to go out with friends etc.
I rejoined the SSKD in 2010 as a 4th kyu. After 4 months of training sensei Ian put me in for a grading and to my surprise I passed my 3rd kyu. Since then I haven’t looked back.
I earned my 1st Dan (Black belt) in 2014. 10 years later I decided it was time to go for my 2nd dan which I successfully passed in October 2024.
I am now looking forward to taking on a roll as an instructor, where I will help to develop and shape the future of the SSKD.
