Sussex Shotokan Karate-Do Association
Sussex Shotokan Karate-Do clubs practice the traditional Shotokan style as laid down by Gichin Funakoshi. Generally we have a Nakayama – Enoeda lineage but happily integrate some of other masters methods. We use the Shotokan Karate system of basics, combination and kata as a tool box to learn and understand how our minds and bodies work in a martial way.
The SSKD honour the traditional Values of karate while at the same time looking to progress them, keeping an open mind and using modern science and Psychology methods, whilst acknowledging any historical rediscovered concepts that re enlighten our ideas.
At present our Karate Classes are based in Bexhill.
We are licensed through the Amateur Martial Association who are members of the English Karate Federation the Governing Board for karate in the UK, who in turn are recognized by Sport England.
English Karate Federation define karate as “fundamentally the practice of blocking, striking, punching and kicking techniques for the purpose of health, self-development and defence within a specific code of behaviour peculiar to all historical Japanese etiquette, mutual respect and structured hierarchy.

Formed during 1988, with the aim of teaching the principles and ideals of Shotokan Karate.
Sussex Shotokan Karate-Do Association has been running for over 30 years.
